For the rest of my life.

When I dropped out of beauty school I made the promise to live a fully obedient life to Christ. When I decided to leave a beautiful life in LA and move to Sacramento, I made the promise to put down my plans and to always go when and where God tells me to go.

Proverbs 16:9 "We can make our plans but the Lord determines our steps."

People ask have asked me what I want to do with my life or what is my plan, and I never knew fully how to answer that question because my answer was never a generic "pastor" or "stay at home wife" or any one specific thing. But I have finally came to the realization of what I do want to do for the rest of my life and that is walk in full obedience to Christ, whatever that may look like and wherever that may take me. If God directs me to be a marketing director in Sacramento, I will be a marketing director in Sacramento, if God calls me to preach to young girls all over the world, I will go preach to young girls all over the world, if God were to call me to Bakersfield to sit in my parents living room and blog, I would go to Bakersfield and type until my fingers fell off.

No matter how terrifying it is for me to know that I may never plant my roots in one place for the rest of my life, I trust in what I am doing because I know at the end of the day, if I am being obedient to God, I am fulfilling my call.

I have seen what it is to live a life where I live out my plans over living out what God has called me to do, and I can say that is a life I never want to live again. In no way is it easy-street by doing it God's way- in fact, it is incredibly challenging as I have to search my heart daily, see and confront my hurts and weaknesses, but it is by far the most rewarding.

In just this short season of living fully dependent on the voice of God I have:

Found my purpose
Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere- in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

No matter what I am doing, whether it is serving tables at The Cheesecake Factory or serving in the church, God gives me an opportunity to share about Him. I don't have to be in a particular city or environment for me to fulfill a verse that was pressed on my heart at 15 years old.

Found my identity
Isaiah 42:1 "Look at my servant, whom I strengthen. He is my chosen one, who pleases me. I have put my Spirit upon him. He will bring justice to the nations."

I am not only a daughter of Christ, but I am chosen. God saw the MOST unqualified person fit to do what I do. I have learned that who I am and where I can go is not because of my education level, not because of my name, not because of my job, but because God chose me.

Found my worth
Jeremiah 29:11 "'For I know the plans I have for you,' says the Lord. They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'"

I am worthy of what is good. I am worthy of things that give me hope and a future. I know that no matter what may come my way- as long as I am obeying Christ, He will turn it around for my good, and I will settle for nothing less than what is of God and what is good in His sight.

Life will throw me curve-balls. I may not be in my dream city, I may not be married to my dream man, I may not be where I want to be, but if I am walking in full obedience to Christ I know I will be happy and fulfilled.

All I want to do with my life is walk in full, fearless, and undeniable faith and obedience. If I continue to do that, no matter where I end up, I know I am fulfilling my call.

What the Millennial Church Lacks- From a Millennial

Let me start off this blog post with a background on who I am. First off, I am a millennial. I also am a pastor's kid who has been surrounded by the church her entire life. I have been to the small hometown church to the big, three-services-a-day church. I have been the PK running around, the staff member running behind the scenes, and the new comer in the corner awkwardly sipping the burnt coffee.  When I was 18 years old, I moved from the Bible-belt of California (Bakersfield) to Los Angeles. I began attending a church plant, only two-years old at the time, in the heart of Hollywood. For six months I got to church just in time for service to start and I was always the first one to leave. Through a twist of events I ended up serving as a staff member at this church. I love this church with my whole heart! This, being a new church in Hollywood, attracted almost 90% of millennials. After attending this church for two years, I moved up to Sacramento to a church that is alm...

You aren’t always David in the story, sometimes you are Goliath.

I truly believe I am one of the luckiest girls alive. I was raised in a Christian home, sent through private school, and surrounded by love from the most incredible parents, Pastor Dad and Mom. Growing up a PK, my parents did a dang good job at letting me live in a home of grace, corrective love, and freedom from shame. I saw God and Christianity through the acts of a dad who preached the Word and nothing but the Word and through a mom who always would, and still does, tell me to “just be you and forget what anyone else has to say or think about it”. I mean, at 16 they let me dye my hair bubblegum pink; something I clearly have yet to grow out of. I never saw my faith through the eyes of religion, shame, or judgement. Rather, I saw faith through relationship, grace, and the freedom and space to make my faith my own- however that journey needed to happen.  With that being said, I was naive to a world of those who declare Christianity yet spew hate, division, judgement, and so many o...

Waiting room

Last night I felt chaos. In the morning I felt joy. On the 405 freeway I felt peace. In the waiting room I feel chaos. How easy it can be to question what God promised the second we have to wait. All yesterday I prayed and prayed and at the end of the night I gave the situation to God. I woke up knowing who was in control and holding on to His promise that He is going to take over. Then I have to sit in a hospital waiting room for more than fifteen minutes and all of a sudden that assured faith I had in Him, is questioned. "God but what if?" "But God did you really say that?" "Okay but God, if you said that, why isn't it happening now?"  Sitting in my own questions I realized that the true reflection of my heart is how I respond in the waiting room. The answer could come within seconds or within hours, but where is my heart despite the timeline of when my answer is coming? In all honesty my heart is falling back into the chaos it was ...
